Live-DVD "London Calling: Live In Hyde Park" erscheint am 19. Juni

"Columbia Records" Pressemeldung vom 20. April 2010:

Columbia Records To Release Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band's 'London Calling: Live In Hyde Park' Concert Film On June 22

Release Marks First Springsteen Outdoor Concert Film And First From A Festival Setting

On June 22, Columbia Records will release Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band's 'London Calling: Live In Hyde Park' concert film on one Blu-Ray disc and as a two DVD set. Captured in London at the Hard Rock Calling Festival on June 28, 2009 in HD, the 163-minute film documents 26 tracks of live Springsteen that begin in daylight and progress through a gorgeous sunset into night.

'London Calling: Live In Hyde Park' conveys both the experience of being on-stage and the vast crowd experience of the festival environment. Viewers are able to see Springsteen spontaneously directing the E Street Band and shaping the show as it evolves.

The set list spans from 'Born To Run' era to 'Working On a Dream' and includes rare covers such as The Clash's "London Calling," Jimmy Cliff's "Trapped," The Young Rascals' "Good Lovin'," and Eddie Floyd's "Raise Your Hand." Springsteen also performs fan favorite "Hard Times (Come Again No More)," written by Stephen Foster in 1854. Brian Fallon from The Gaslight Anthem joins the band as a guest vocalist on Springsteen's own "No Surrender."

The concert earned rave reviews. The London Times called it "epic" and "a revved-up three-hour power drive through Springsteen’s America." The Independent concurred, "He awed the 50,000-strong crowd… Drenched in sweat by the second number, tossing his guitars to the roadies with the vigour of a frontman a third of his age and jogging down a walkway to meet his fans and take their requests, Springsteen's intensity was staggering from first powerful vocal to final thrashed-out chord."

GRAMMY and Emmy Award-winning producer and editor Thom Zimny and director Chris Hilson, both members of Springsteen's video team dating back over a decade, oversaw the film. Audio was mixed by Bob Clearmountain.

Bonus material includes stunning footage of "The River" from Glastonbury, June 27; and the full music video for "Wrecking Ball," filmed at New Jersey's Giants Stadium.

Reviews:

Seattle Post Intelligencer - Glen Boyd:
London Calling: Live In Hyde Park may not feature the greatest fans' dream setlist ever. Hell, it doesn't even come from the tour that topped most of the recent hardcore wish lists (that distinction probably belongs to the 2007-08 tour behind the Magic album).
But it is the first time the full experience of a complete Springsteen/E Street Band show — start to stop — has successfully been documented on DVD. There are none of the screwy song-gaps of 2001's Live In New York City. Nor is there the disjointed sequencing of 2003's Live In Barcelona.

Allvoices - Carl Bookstein:
In this powerful three hour concert, Springsteen and the E Street Band once again prove that with a full on rock and roll show, nobody does it any better.

Wicked Local - Peter Chianca:
The camaraderie between Bruce and his band members seeps through the screen as the show goes on; what’s here that was missing from earlier shows is a clear appreciation for how far they’ve come, and it’s a joy to see. That alone makes “London Calling” a worthwhile souvenir of a landmark tour.
But in capturing Springsteen’s jaw-dropping, freak-of-nature energy and showmanship — as confidently on display here, as tens of thousands of hands sway to a fan-requested “Bobby Jean,” as it has been during any point in Springsteen’s storied career — it makes you hope that there are at least a few more tours to come further on up the road.

Rolling Stone Magazine:
Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band's epic performance at London's Hard Rock Calling festival on June 28th, 2009 will come to DVD and Blu-ray as London Calling: Live In Hyde Park on June 22nd. As the title suggests, the 27-song concert opens up with a rousing cover of the Clash's "London Calling" and goes on to span the Springsteen catalog from Born to Run to the Jersey legend's most recent album, Working on a Dream.9
