BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN
- SPRINGSTEEN DELIGHTED WITH GOLDEN GLOBE
Rock legend BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN could barely contain his delight after
winning a Golden Globe award.
The Born To Run hitmaker scored Best Original Song for the title track
to acclaimed movie The Wrestler at the glittering ceremony in Los Angeles
on Sunday night (11Jan09).
Springsteen beat Peter Gabriel with Down To Earth from Wall-E, Jamie
Cullum's title track from Clint Eastwood's Gran Torino, Miley Cyrus
with I Thought I Lost You from Bolt, and Beyonce with Cadillac Records'
Once In A Lifetime.
And the rocker was delighted to be even shortlisted in the same category
as Hollywood legend Eastwood's acclaimed movie.
He told the crowd: "This is the only time I'm going to be in competition
with Clint Eastwood."
Springsteen also thanked the film's star Mickey Rourke and director
Darren Aronofsky for inviting him to be part of the movie, adding, "Thanks
for thinking of me."
Springsteen's triumph was one of two awards for The Wrestler, with Mickey
Rourke also picking up the prize for Best Actor.

This is the only time I’m gonna be in competition with Clint Eastwood.
Felt pretty good, too!
Anyway, Mickey called me in Ireland and he asked me for some music. He
told me a little bit about the character; he said some people invest
themselves in their pain, and they turn away from love and the things
that strengthen and nurture their lives. He said this was a guy that
hadn’t figured that out. So I said, “Well, I know a couple of those
guys….” And so, the song.
First and foremost, I’d like to thank Mickey - without the call I wouldn’t
have written the song, without his inspiration - thank you, brother,
for a beautiful performance, thank you for thinking of me!
I’d like to thank Darren and all the folks involved with the film, for
letting me be a small part of their picture - thank you.
Love to my strong and lovely wife Patti; hello to Evan, Jess and Sam
at home. Happy birthday, Big Man Clarence Clemons.
